“Overlord” is a horror war film directed by Julius Avery and released in 2018. It stars Jovan Adepo as Boyce, a young and inexperienced American soldier who is part of a paratrooper squad sent to destroy a Nazi radio tower in a French village on the eve of D-Day. Wyatt Russell plays Ford, the leader of the squad and a demolition expert. Mathilde Ollivier plays Chloe, a French resistance fighter who helps them. The film is set in an alternate 1940s, where the Nazis have been conducting horrific experiments on humans and animals in a secret underground laboratory. Boyce accidentally discovers the lab when he escapes from a Nazi patrol and stumbles into a hidden entrance. He witnesses the gruesome results of the experiments, such as zombies, mutants and super-soldiers. He also rescues Rosenfeld, played by Dominic Applewhite, another member of his squad who was captured and tortured. The film shows how Boyce and his squad try to complete their mission and stop the Nazis from unleashing their monstrous creations on the world. They team up with Chloe, who lives in the village with her aunt and her little brother Paul, played by Gianny Taufer. They face many dangers and obstacles, such as Nazi soldiers, landmines, snipers and dogs. They also have to deal with their own conflicts and doubts, especially between Boyce and Ford, who have different views on morality and survival. The film ends with a thrilling climax, where Boyce manages to plant explosives in the lab and blow up the radio tower, while fighting off Wafner, played by Pilou Asbæk, the sadistic Nazi officer who injected himself with a serum that made him stronger and crazier. Boyce survives the explosion and reunites with his squad and Chloe’s family. The film closes with Boyce reporting to his superiors that the radio tower was destroyed by an air strike, concealing the truth about the lab and its horrors.
